Narrated in first person by 'Kvothe' the protagonist, this story is about a grown man who grows to become notorious wizard. It takes you back to his life as a boy, where he travels along with his parents with a troupe, but later becomes an orphan due to a tragic incident. It showcases how he copes with various challenges in his life and then somehow manages to arrive at his destination i.e. the legendary school of magic. From thereon, starts his life of becoming the wizard and how he tries to unfold the mystery of the tragic incident which made him lose his parents.

The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss was a long read for me, but it was surely worth the time. It is the first book from The KingKiller Chronicle Series. Narrated in first person by the protagonist ‘Kvothe’, it makes you feel as if you are a part of his journey. Facing the ups and downs in his life with him.

One of the things which I really liked about this book, is that it comprises of all emotions. It has adventures in Kvothe’s life with a measured romantic angle. It showcases great friendship not just with people in his school, but places where he is employed. These friends are there to watch out for him. This novel has thriller and action, when Kvothe is caught off-guard in certain situation. More importantly, this book has mystery of faeries, demons, dragons, etc. I won’t spoil that for you, but the detailing is mind-blowing.

The best part about this book apart from a captivating plot, is the character building. The author has taken good amount of time to showcase characteristics of each and every character. Making it easier to imagine them and understand them better.

I would recommend this book to those who are interested in mystery with a tinge of magic to it. The novel contains all the elements that are required for you to be glued it and forget what’s happening around you.
